A layered and culturally responsive public realm that celebrates heritage, ecology, and civic connection at Elizabeth Quay.
One The Esplanade (1TE) at Elizabeth Quay was conceived as a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging landscape that enhances Perth’s civic identity while connecting people to place. Deep Green Landscaping was engaged to deliver the construction of the landscape, integrating cultural storytelling, ecological function, and high-quality public spaces across the site.
The design celebrates Whadjuk Noongar heritage and Western Australia’s civic milestones through sculptural elements, interpretive artworks, and bespoke installations. Fluid forms and endemic plantings evoke the natural character of the Swan River’s edge, supporting biodiversity and reinforcing a riverine connection within the urban environment.
Public engagement and accessibility were prioritised through open pathways, intuitive circulation, and inclusive seating. Sculptural planters, gathering nodes, and softscape zones provide spaces for pause, social interaction, and contemplation. Safety and visibility were enhanced through considered lighting, clear sightlines, and durable materials suited to a high-traffic public setting.
Sustainability and longevity were embedded in the project. Chemical use was minimised, native and low-maintenance planting established, and water-sensitive irrigation systems implemented. Tree protection and transplant strategies preserved significant vegetation, while a comprehensive landscape management plan ensures ongoing performance and visual quality.
Deep Green’s construction expertise ensured precise execution of complex design elements, including sculptural seating, paving, planting, and lighting integration. Collaborative coordination with heritage consultants, artists, and engineers maintained design integrity and delivered a public realm that is resilient, inclusive, and reflective of Perth’s cultural and ecological identity.
One The Esplanade now stands as a benchmark in public realm landscape construction Perth, providing a functional and symbolic urban space that fosters connection, reflection, and celebration.
